there might not be a specific self defense to teach you what to do in a grappling situation, but you learn enough basic principals to know how to get out of it. for example, some is trying to push you down, you use the momentum that they have created to push you to throw them off balance. from there you take control over their energy and put them down and restrain them with joint manipulation.
i have not seen any aikido techniques that would help you on the ground, but there are plenty that would stop it from going to the ground. once it does go to the ground, i know a couple of hapkido moves, but i do not know if there is anything similar in aikido. if they are sitting on your chest you can wrap you legs around their chest and pull them down. if they are on top of you you can raise your hips and throw them off balance then roll over and get on top of them (this is actually also a BJJ move).... but you are a little limited with ground techniques.
