It actually seems more like kung fu than aikido. There is some aikido or jiujitsu in the style, but I think that the majority of the fluidity comes from an internal Chinese style (remember that Matayoshi-Sensei spent time in China, and Yamashita-Sensei seems to take very heavily after him)
