Default How dangerous is boxing?

Ive always thought boxing is a very dangerous sport that can cause things like brain damage.

Do any of you box?
If so, have you ever been seriously hurt?

When i was at school there were so many stories of how a famous boxer had got brain damage and how it was a sport to avoid.
Thinking back now im sure that it was because he was injured in a certain way and refused to give up the sport he loved.
Im no medical advisor but im sure they wouldnt let kids do this sport if the risks were that bad and also it wouldnt be an olympic sport.
i think the brain damage stories we hear are the extreme worst cases and of course they will hit the news.
I dont think you have anything to worry about imo.

i do think that long-term getting hit in the head will have its impact on your health, but any contact sport will have its drawbacks

stick with what you love

This article doesnt really put up a good arguemnet for boxing and its side effects ...
I think you need to research it all very carefully.

Remember though even if you are reading this article all news items can be biased you will need to do alot of research into this before coming to a decision.

What about Mohammad Ali - do you think his illness now has anything to do with his boxing career?

He has Parkinsons doesnt he?
That can happen to anyone, not just boxers. Michael J Fox has it too.

There are risks, but there are risks with all sports.
Look at football or hockey, you can get killed in those sports too.

I dont think that boxing is as dangerous as people make it out to be. If it really was as dangerous as that, then the governments of the world would have banned it by now wouldnt they.

Well it apears that most of you agree with me about this being noware near as dangerous as some people would have me believe.
Still it does have its dangers, the same as all sports have their dangers, but I'm sure that people that do box, are trained enough to saverly reduce the chances of major injery.
