Arrow Kung Fu

Kung Fu

Kung Fu is the original Chinese art.
Shao-Lin monks developed and taught Kung Fu as a tool for strengthening the body and achieving the coordination of mind and body that is required to sustain prolonged mediative states.

From the different Shao-Lin temples came dozens of variants styles with the Northern arts emphasizing the mental aspects of the art while the Southern arts put more emphasis on the physical aspects of Kung Fu.

Kung Fu is a highly intellectual art, with the ultimate goal being a symbiotic relationship between the physical and mental aspects of self.

I think so many people, particularly in the West, are accustomed to thinking of Martial Arts for their raw physical aspects and forget that the premise behind the art is connection between spiritual, mental and physical realities and that the excercise of martial arts is as much a state of mind as it is a particular physical motion.

I agree with you yoda, but would say that I hope that alot of the people that practice martial arts, realise that it all about the phisical combat. The link between the spiritual and phisical aspects of a person that makes you feel whole. But also increases your ability the live your life. Training in a martial art can train you how to react in certain situations, give you a self disaplin that would be otherwise completly unatainable.

I always thought this too.

As I said in another thread, I see buddhism playing a major part in chinese martial arts. Its a real spiritual adventure for them, not just a physical one.

They sure did, and I think its because they were trained every day since their early childhood that they are so good, and not to do witht he religious side of it.

Well I would disagree raven, the religous side, as you put it, has huge baring on the physical side. Buddism trains there minds to be dedicated at what they are doing. It also teaches them that its a defence / body training thing, not something to be used to kick someone a$$ for fun.
