Default Tai Chi Chuan

Is anyone here familiar with Tai Chi Chuan? If you are not, Tai Chi Chuan (Chines: "Grand Ultimate Fist"), also called CHINESE BOXING, is an ancient and distinctive Chinese form of exercise or attack and defense. It was developed to provide relaxation while performing body conditioning exercises. It was drawn up from the basic principles of T'ai Chi.

I'm practicing tai chi, 24 forms (simplified (although I don't really see anything simple about it)).

Fighting based on Tai Chi? Sounds really interesting. Any of you who practice it could you tell me what are some of the key points to the art? Anything distinctive?

Well, I'm not approaching from a fighting perspective, but rather as a meditative art form with roots in martial arts. Maybe I'm out to lunch?

I am of the same thought as you here. Although I do know that it can be more in depth. I understand it depends on the style of the Tai Chi.

Hello ALL - In reading your posts, it looks like that even though some of you are training in Taijiquan, you still do not know all that Taijiquan has to offer!

Those of you that WANT TO KNOW, go to (www.taijiworld), which is run by a True Master of Taijiquan - Erle Montaigue. Now, there is an article (The Demise of Taijiquan), that will "Explain" why you are confused as to what Taijiquan really is! In the Article section, The Demise of Taijiquan can be found in the 3rd column from the Left, and the 20th DOWN. As a matter of fact, All of you should take a Good Look at Erle's Web-site!
I have been training in the soft arts for around 50 years now, and this web-site, is The Only One That Gives All Of The Information That You Would Need (read some of the other articles - which I Hope will Help You Understand what you are training in

Years ago….(when I didi Taijiquan) I used to think Monty was full of beans…Most of the Taijiquan community uses the Ba Men (the eight doors) Peng, Li, Ji An Kuo etc …to fight with

Monty’s Taijiquan appears to be strike orientated. Years and years ago I dropped Taijiquan (partially cause I couldn’t find a teacher who could display real martial prowess) for a Long fist style…

Knowing what I know now (from the years of long fist experience) I look at Erle Montaigue with a new light. His style may not be authentic Yang style But I think he’s pursued Taijiquan in a martial sense with a passion for damn near 4 decades. Few practicing Taijiquan can claim that. Most of his students follow in his footsteps. You can’t say that about Yang Zhen Dau or the FU Zhongwen branch either. Most of the major branches of Yang style have long abandoned their martial roots in favor of Qi Gong
