meh, a bit of both. what the sifu told me about the history of wing chun was that wing chun was a female shaolin monk and she developed this style to fend off against stronger, bigger opponents than herself and that style has been passed on generation to generation until yip man openly taught wing chun kung fu in schools.

the master was drunk......and you can tell the type of martial art they do is for showing mostly, but i am sure the liion dance is not a easy thing to do. so far i know 4, if you go to chapters you can find this thick thick wingchun text book, and the writer is teaching in near bridgeland i believe, and then there's brian's near chinook, greko wong's(bunch of very tough guys) in NW, and finally the one i go to. i am thinking of just to check out the one by the text book writer, anyone wants to go together? my email is ido523@yahoo.com.tw |

no the one that i am talking about is just off of barlow and centre ave (it is not downtown).... the version taught there is suppose to be passed down from the same master that originally taught bruce lee. and it make sense because it is all about economy of motion.
the master that teaches there did write a book, is that the school that you are thinking of checking out? (Canadian Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) Academy Homepage) i went to the free class they offer. he was very knowledgable and taught a good class, but it was not my style and the work out was way too easy.

get there and i dont have a car. i think all wingchun, or almost all martial arts, will try to use the economy of motion, so claiming using the economy of motion doesnt prove it's real wingchun, for example, lots of school out there teaches using the"chain punch" to fight, to bombard, to finish your oponent, because they say that the chain punch motion is very economical. that's true, i wont say they are wrong, but lets face it, it is economical but not the only economical punch there is in the world, a boxers jab is also very economical, and they use it to set up for attacks, to disrupt rhythms and to stop a combo, same idea is the sun fist in wingchun, it's not meant to throw like a chain punch to finish your enemy off, it's meant to intercept, cut into an attacking line......now you know where "the way of intercepting fist" came from, wing chun is not to protect some "centre line", it is to use a structure to "intercept" lines. having more economical moves than you need and using them in the wrong way makes it no economical anymore. i just want to see how realistic their wingchun is, and you really dont need that much of a "work out" to do good wing chun, it's just good for your health. i know that bruse lee learned wing chun, it's a well known fact, but that he actually never finish learning the whole thing doesnt really make too good of an advertisement for wingchun schools. cheers |
