well i've only taken a few classes so far... but so far it's going pretty good.

so far i've learned some basic stances, defence against straight punches and round punches and defence against front kicks, as well as the person grabbing you with one arm and both arms at the same time. there's also been a lot of work with the heavy bags, and the target thingies. it's quite the workout! and apparently i'm supposed to be able to learn some weapons and stuff here too! and to my surprise, they are also teaching some grappling and throwing as well. i never knew wing chun had such techniques lol.

one thing i've noticed tho, is that if they tell you to do a front kick, you just do it. if they tell you to do a roundhouse, you just do it. side kick, you just do it. they tell you what those kicks are and how you're supposed to do them, but i see that a lot of people are not very good at it because they're not taught properly. but then i guess, wing chun's not supposed to be focused on kicking.

the school is the one on 53rd ave. Canadian Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy | Calgary Martial Arts & Self Defense for Men, Women, Children

and yea i definitely think i'd be able to incoporate wing chun into my current style. the concepts make sense and it can definitely add to my style. although, i think the same can be said of almost any martial arts. you can "absorb what is useful and disregard what is useless" from any style hehe :P

Okay, total idiot here, but how does Wing Chun differ from Kung Fu? Is there a historical period where it branches off, or is it the "parent" of Kung Fu?

i thought that wing chung was a really interesting art. i was thinking of going into it, but i found that it was just too similar to some other things i have done.

what is your warm-up like? that was the only thing that i did not like about wing chung, the class (that i took anyway) was not very intense. i did the whole class without breaking a sweat.

ummm for the warm up we do some weird hand movements and forms which i don't quite get yet hahaha as well as some stretching and stuff.

but here the classes aren't all the same. there are classes for skills/techniques, classes for cardio/conditioning, classes for different skill levels, children's classes, and etc. etc. The skills/techniques classes i can easily get through without breaking a sweat but the cardio/conditioning classes are quite the workout! i was definitely struggling at the end of it.

The only trouble with wiki though, is that it can easily contain mistakes too.

Good point. Especially in specialized cases like this, where they might only be a few people editing, mistakes can slip through. Wikipedia's greatest strength is in areas where there are a decent number of people doing editing.
