Default Green tea?

I have heard several say that green tea is good for you. I have tried a few times and liked the taste. Can someone tell me what it is supposed to do for you?

I never much about it either until I started doing a little research. I never liked the taste of the store bought kind. I prefer to brew my own at home. It is said to help your immune system, arthritis, cancer, and several other things. Here are a few links about it.

The last link is some info about green tea and cancer.

The big positive is the anti-oxidents, I think the idea is that green tea is supposed to help cleanse your insides

I always wonder if things like green tea actually promote health, or is it just that those who drink green tea regularly are more likely to have other habits consistent with good health.

I don't know if they can promote better health on their own, but choosing green tea is a much better choice then say - soda.

There have also been studies done that people who drink green tea regularly have a lower incidence of skin cancer.

It has a lot of anti-oxidants and other than that I don't know exactly what it does. I've always found that tea helps me relax after a workout and keeps me from getting tense and sore afterwards.

But is it necessarily due to the tea? Maybe people who drink green tea are more likely to live in climates where they receive less exposure to strong sunlight.

chipinoh, yes I do have to agree with your question. I always question how studies were done. I really wish I could remember where I had read the article!
Either way, I think that the antioxidants offered by the tea are of a great benefit.

Usually these studies are done pretty well with good controls. All the samples are taken in similar climates if not the same area. Exposure is the same and they are compared against each other. What is important in these studies are the samples. You need very large samples that do not have other variables affecting their risk. If you only have 1000 people it's easily just the luck of the draw that they didn't get skin cancer not the tea. I'm not sure but I think green tea is one of the studies that was actually well done when it comes to cancer research.
