Talking

Well I thought I'd tell you my "weight" news. I started swimming in January and I currently swim 1 mile every morning, 7 days a week and to date have lost almost 38 lbs in weight (that's just over 2 and half stone to us brits!) I have motivated myself to sign up for a sponsored swim raising money for a Cancer Charity and have pledged to swim 100 miles by April 20th. I did my 91st mile today and look like finishing on the morning of my birthday, April 16th (4 days EARLY!), and also on that day I will hit my target weight of losing 3 stone thats 42 lbs. I feel incredible, I have loads more energy, I've lost more than 6 inches from my waist and dropped several collar sizes. Also I seem to have bulked up on my upper body and have noticed increases in biceps, traps, chest and shoulder muscles so fully intend to continue this after I complete my 100 miles. Also as it is low-impact, it has no negative effect on my knees. I've obviously combined the swimming with a sensible diet eliminating caffeine and candy is now a treat which makes it feel more special!

You mean aside from swimming a mile every day?

Actually, I've got a similar question. How did you keep doing it? Did you just say "I'm going to do this"? Or did it take help from friends or some other tactic to overcome general human laziness? (I have issues with this)

There is a number of things that help to keep me motivated. One is routine. I mentioned in a previous thread that I stick to a disciplined routine and don't deviate. I prepare everything the night before such as my lunch for the next day, and also get my swimming gear ready too. That way I get up, grab my stuff and am well on my way by 6.30am. By 7.10am I'm done. After a shower and nip home to put my stuff away I'm them off to work. Once I get used to the routine it's easy to stick to it. Another helpful motivator is the increase in energy I now have plus the enormous feeling of well-being. This encourages me to keep going. I have also set myself a goal, not only distance to swim but also weight to lose. I set a timetable too and am pleased to say I'm gonna smash it by almost an entire month! It helps greatly too to get support from friends and colleagues, telling me how well I look etc. this keeps you focused on your goal.

Late nite midnite snacks are achilles heel. I have to train my 'sleeping self' to sleep on empty stomache.
