some of the greatest martial arts LEGENDS of all time. both hailing from china of course.
Huo Yuanjia was the founder of the jin woo athletic association. he is considered a hero in china for challenging foreign fighters (russian wrestlers, british boxers, etc.) in highly publicized matches (and winning them) at a time when chinese sovereignty was being eroded by foreign concessions and spheres of influence (western, japanese etc.)
Jet Li's movie "Fearless" is based on the story of the life of Huo Yuanjia.
he founded wushu as it is today, as "athleticism" or a "sport" rather than traditional wushu which was for self defence, battle, and etc. he did so because the government outlawed all practices of traditional wushu because of fear of being overthrown.
Wong Fei Hong was a chinese folk hero, a practitioner of traditional chinese medicine, a martial artist, and the subject of numerous, countless television series and films. drunken master was portraying wong fei hung, same with once upon a time in china with jet li, legend of the drunken master with jackie chan again, last hero in china with jet li, and etc. etc. etc.
wong fei hung was a master of the style of "hung gar" and choreographed its version of the famous tiger crane paired form fist, which incorporates his "ten special fist" techniques. there are certain legends about him such as a story which says he defeated a 30 man gang using just his staff. he's also said to have stated the names of techniques he used while fighting.
