Default Testing Thursday

I'm testing for yellow belt (first test of Yamashita-style Shorin Ryu) on Thursday. The thing I'm most concerned about is the order/naming of maneuvers. It seems like every martial arts style uses the same names for kicks, but changes around which kick has which name. I also have to remember the order that the first ten self defense moves come in.

that is excting! do you find that you are as nervous as when you tested for the first time, or have you noticed a big change in how anxious you get?

i thought it was neat that for my black belt testing (which was a big test and i had taken a break from MA so it have been a long time since i tested) i was not nervous. i was just excited because i thought it would be fun

i would wish you luck, but i know you don't need it.... let us know how it goes.

I was a lot more nervous before I found out that I don't have to test on a kata that I haven't been fully taught yet. Kind of an odd concept to test when I don't know everything, but the dojo only holds tests once every four months or so. My "success" will be dependent on me later learning the kata. I still won't be able to progress in knowledge until I have sufficiently learned the kata.

I did it. I am now a yellow belt. I found myself panicking yesterday (partly because I had forgotten one of the kihons, which are simple kata).

However, my panic was largely unnecessary. I was expecting far more out of myself than sensei was expecting, it seems. (kind of makes sense, since I was a blue belt in another school, so I was holding myself to blue belt standards.)
