Whilst browsing a website I heard a rumour that they are considering remaking the Karate Kid Franchise. What are your thoughts> Did you enjoy them first time round? Who would make a good Daniel-San and who could replace the irreplaceable Pat Morrita as Mr Miyagi?

As for the last question, you answered it. Nobody can replace him. Hopefully, if this does happen, they find someone who will make the role his own and not try to copy Morrita. Honestly, I think that the best choice would be someone that we're no going to recognize, because he's likely to be an extra in most movies. He can't be a young guy. The whole "Japanese Master, American Student" thing really only will sit in most peoples' minds if the master is a retired guy.
As for the rest of your questions; Yes, I enjoyed the first movie (don't remember beyond that). If they do it soon, I'm going to guess that they'll try to get Shaya LeBouf (not sure about spelling, but it's the guy from Transformers) as Daniel-San. As for who would make a good choice, I don't know.

perhaps instead of a remake... a third installment... to make it a trilogy. like for example... it's in the future, daniel has become an older more experienced fighter, mr miyagi has passed on, and something, i dunno. i think that'd be interesting.

I don't necessarily see it as destroying a classic (it would, of course, depend on how well they do). As a writer, I'm painfully aware that there is no story that hasn't been told. Everything that is created is merely a new rearrangement of copied material. I think that Hollywood, in a way, is a bit more honest about it.
Aside from that, I've seen some excellent remakes recently, so this is kind of exciting. To me, it really all comes down to "how well do they do it?" There are several ways that they could take this that would be destroying it.
