I was wondering this as i was watching through old episodes of dragonball z (yes that's right, i'm a huge dbz nerd).
in dbz, they sometimes train in multiple times the normal gravity of earth, to achieve several times the effect of the same workout in normal gravity. do u think there's something to this for real life applications? say for example, in the future we can go and train on jupiter or something (just a hypothetical situation don't look too much into the technicalities of why it would not be possible) or say that we actually build a machine that allows us to experience multiple times normal gravity. do u think training under these kinds of conditions would wield the same benefits as in the anime? or if that seems too farfetched... let's take another example from the series. weighted clothing. characters such as goku and piccolo often wore weighted clothing to weigh themselves down, as a method of training more intensely. even in the earliest of dragonball episodes, master roshi made goku and krillin wear heavy turtle shells on their backs (50 pounds) while they did their every day training. what if real martial artists in the real world tried that method? what do you guys think? and i'm not talking about wrist and ankle weights. i mean the entire training gear, weighted. |

yea. i've always wanted to try something like that but the best i got for now are wrist and ankle weights. after training with them for a while, i take them off, and it almost feels like i can float haha. i just feel wayyy lighter and faster and all my movements become easier.

ankle and wrist weights are bad for your joints. if you do use them, make sure you do your motions slowly so that you do not injure your joints

if i do them slow, do u think it'd still help me in some way?

yeah because it would still be weight training. doing your motions slow even without weights is beneficial. if you go super slow, you can refine your technique and just target the exact muscles that you need for that technique and it is often harder to control your body when doing a motion really slow (like a kick) so i helps with balance too.

Weighted vests are your best bets for full-speed training. They won't help your arm-movements much, but your jumps/kicks will gain great benefit.
As far as training in, say, 1.5g, yes, I believe that would be helpful, if incredibly tiring. Of course, we couldn't survive training in the higher gravities that Gohan trained in.

like Sirdarksol said, a weighted vest is your best bet. but you could also wear the ankle/wrist weights and punch/kick a bag. as long as you make impact with something it should not be hard on your joints because they are stoped before they over extend.

i tried to work on my punching bag with ankle and wrist weights on. it didn't feel like it was helping cuz... because of the weights it felt like i was hitting the bag much harder than i actually was... just because my hands and feet were "heavier".
