Default How do you deal with aches after a training session?

For the past couple of Saturdays, I have been attending 2 hours of class rather than the usual one, and these have left me aching quite a bit afterward.

I have my own routine for dealing with the aches, which involves light movement (collapsing into a chair when I get home is bad), fluids, and aspirin or tylenol if things are bad enough.

This got me thinking, what do others do to deal with their own aches?

assuming it is not serious i lightly stretch and keep that part of me moving so it does not stiff up. i should ice, but i never remember. but i make sure i do not use it as an excuse to not work out because i find that usually makes it worse

Does your class include a cool down period?

I find that after an extended period of exertion, the aches and pains are a lot less prominent if I end the workout with a good cool down & some stretching.

It doesn't have to be anything crazy, I realize that you just went through two hours of activity, but it might help. If you are doing a cool down and the aches are still killing you I've heard that a lot of guys have success with muscle rubs like Icy-Hot.

Usually a cool bath... not too cold, but cold enough to reduce any inflammation. Than a warm shower. After that, some light stretching, followed by tiger balm.

my MA does include a cool-down, but usually only after more difficult classes.

there is some great advice here so far.

You might want to try not being a sally there Sirdarksol. Lol, I want to get that tiger balm stuff to rub on, does it provide good results?

You know, I think I'll hold a garage sale on Saturday, since my normal plans are shot. Then I could sell all your stuff that's sitting out there, and your sister could get her car in the garage like she's been asking to be able to do for the past week.

I think that would be sucky... but as a buddhist I care not for material posessions. [or more accurately try to not care about them.] ;D

Then, I think that, in the spirit of helping you be a better Buddhist, I am going to claim your X-Box and your copy of Need for Speed as mine.
