hey did you guys catch today's episode? i could not believe it, Matt Hughes of all people talking about how to represent the sport! i cannot stand Hughes!! he is such an idiot, he is all about his time in the spotlight and not about coaching and training.... like in last episode where he punished his team because they lost..... hey Hughes, look around at your team! getting smaller! gee, could that be a sign of bad coaching??? do you know what you need to do more of, cancelling practice to force your team to read the bible.... after all it is not like cardio training and weight training is a better way to train guys for MMA.

but i so enjoy that Hughes got mad at Mac for the disrespect he was showing his team member. Mac is a bit of a dick. i think he does not represent the sport well because he thinks so high of him self.... i don't know about you but i think that part of being a MAist is a bit of humility and respect to others!!

on the other hand, i do apprieciate that Mac did not want the guys in the house killing the flys..... i am really big on that myself. i think that all life should be respected and protected and that should still be the case even if you are involved in "human cock fighting"...... there has been many a sparing match that i have had to pause to usher a insect out of the sparring area to protect it....... in fairness i do practice buddhism and Hapkido (my main style) is heavely based in buddhism.

ok, i will finally end my rant! but i will end it with a question:

do you think that things like humility, respect, etc. should be considered an essential part of being a MAist? and what is MMA doing to this preception?

i know when i go my black belt i had to swear an oath and it was not concerned so much with me promissing to have perfect technique as it was concerned with me acting in good conduct.

I think to conduct oneself in a couteous, respectful and humble manner ishould be at the core of any serious MAist.

Scratch that, it should be at the core of every human being MAist or not. As a practitioner of MA maybe our bar should be set higher; as I have seen posted a few times here already, 'With great power comes great responsibility'.

We are training in terchniques that could end a persons life; therefore we should have an even greater awareness of the preciousness (is that a word?) of it and act accordingly.

Basically, manners cost nothing but are valued highly!

I've had this conversation so many times lol..... I feel that MMA, however popular, is more harmful to MA, than helpful. It portrays only the competition, and the violence, and disregards the discipline, values, and art that so many of us have spent or lives learning.

It's not a martial art, it is trained street fighting. I'm not saying that you can't learn more than one style, or that you shouldn't practice more than one style (I do that myself).....
However in MMA they seem to forget the philosophy, discipline, and way of life....

i would have agreed with you Doc, if it weren't (ironically) for Tito Ortiz. did you see the TUF season that he coached? i thought he did a lot for MMA that season and brought respect back into MMA. and there are a lot of MMAist that do have respect and are MAist not fighters.

i really noticed that after i joined up with muay thai i gained more respect for MMAist. i was wery to join MT because it attracts a lot of a-holes that no nothing of MA and just want to fight. but now that i have been taking it longer i have noticed that there are a some serious MAist. the same is true for MMA.

i think one of the weeknesses of MMA is Dana White. he is a showman and only seems to care about ratings and looking like the a good guy.

I will agree with you about Tito for sure. And believe me.... There are MMAists out there that are really good, and amazing to watch. I just think that the sport in general ( Especially in the public arena) needs an overhaul, and an attitude adjustment.

BTW..... I think its great that you took up MT..... I know what your saying about the aholes, but the style itself has an amazing history

it is just a shame that the main venue for MMA is the UFC. i find that the UFC is advertised to appeal to.... well, there is no other way to say this.... hicks. it is advertised as human cock fighting (even though Dana says that is not the case) and i hate the use of grudge matches and trying to advertise bad blood and all that. it seems like that press confirences are setup to encourage that behaviour and fuel it. that kind of unprofessionalism is just a couple of steps away from WWF type wrestling. i wish Dana could get a wake up call and see what he is doing to the sport, but in the end he gets more money his way, so i hardly think he cares.....

what we need is a serious MMAist to start up a new organization that is taken more serious. that goes back to the roots of MA. that way any of the serious MA can watch that organization and all the serious MMAist could fight there. leaving the UFC to the masses with people like Koscheck and Hughes and all th other MMAist that have no respect for the sport or MA.

i just watched that episoed again, and caught something else... how sad is it that after the fight it was serra that comforted the losing fighter and told him to hang in there..... i always thought that was a coaches job, not that i was under the illusion that Hughes is a good coach! if i was on that team i would ditch the coach and train on my own.

I love how Dana White only shows up when he can ***** out someone or give an inspiring speech. Seems to me like everything he does/says is so scripted.
