Did anyone get to see this event? I thought the 2 main events were great! George St Pierre did very well against Hughes, and suprisingly, Liddell looked good against Silva. Anyone elses thoughts on this event?

GSP dominated hughes and submitted him in the second round with a very nice arm bar. He out wrestled him throughout the fight. Liddell and Silva was a stand up slug fest war, but liddell took the decision win. It was deserved, but a great fight, and I was amazed at how much Silva could take and just keep comming at liddell. I think it surprised Liddell too. Overall great fights, they should be posted on youtube by now

with a whore like Dana running the show they won't get posted on youtube anytime soon.... even though that is really short sighted because good clips would encourage people to watch the whole events. but we all can't be saavy business people

Ok this maybe totaly out of line and dont get me wrong i also like to watch the ufc but hasnt it got more like watching a street fight rather than two people skilled in MA i mean knocking a guy out with a punch in stand up well you see the same in a boxing match now the ground and pound theory is that if you cant think of a ground technique then just hit them still good viewing because some of the guys do have some amazing moves but i prefer the first ufc's with gracie etc when people stuck to there own disiplines but it also goes to show how much you need to know good stand up and groundwork to be the a good all round fighter .. sorry if off thread .. slap on wrist..

if you are ever worried about being off topic just start a new thread. i will leave this one though.
personally i thought the gracies were arogant and i do not approve of the way they popularized their art. i have heard that in the beginning of UFC a lot of the fighters were not highly skilled so that is why they dominated, they popularized the incorrect unsubstantiated statistic that 70% (i some time here much higher) of fights go to the ground, and a BJJ instructor told me that originally BJJ was taught wrong to non-brazilians so that they would always win in competitions to make themselves look better. as far as the UFC goes, it COULD be more than a street fight if they changed the judging system. from the decisions i have seen, skill is not a big deciding factor of the outcome. but i think/hope that most people nowdays understand the difference between martial arts and martial sports. and don't even get me started on how annoyed i am that they call it "Mixed" Martial Arts when there is very little mixing.

I agree for the most part. There are however a few MMAists that I enjoy watching, and are quite skilled. My favorite right now is George St. Pierre. He is a very talented fighter and very technical. There are a few more, but I agree, most do just look like street fights, but as disgruntled said, if the judging was changed, it could make a big difference.

I do agree that some MMA fighters are still skilled but i would still prefer to watch the ufc when everyone stuck to there own style i mean are you trying to tell me that there is no way to stop someone taking you to the floor that just means your stand up defence is not good enough they just did not know take down defence royce gracie was not and still aint that big of a guy if someone hit him right he would of been a gonna...
