Default WCL - a ****in disgrace...

i just watched a bit of the world combat league on the telly today. it was so ****in horrible. i've seen better fighting in an elementary school playground at recess. they are so incredibly messy, have no idea how to punch or kick effectively, and their footing is absolutely horrid. what's worse, they get called on "stalling"... which only keeps the ridiculously amateurish flourishes of flailing limbs going.

this has me truly disgusted to my very core. damn you chuck norris...

the major problem is the penalty for stalling. if a fighter cannot get a handle on a fight and their opponent then they cannot fight. you are right it is a lot of hand flapping. and because they basically get judged on putting on the best show there is a lot of stupid pointless showy kicks..... which would be cool, but because they cannot take the time to properly set them up it looks ultra lame!!!

i would say "what happened Chuck Norris, you use to be cool", but then again, i never liked the guy.

side note: i don't think that it means that the "fighters" on the show are bad martial artist, i just think that the format of the show is not designed for fighting. it is all about the action, and that is not what martial arts is about..... unless it is choreographed.... maybe all that time as Walker Texas Ranger has made Chuck Norris forget what a real Martial Artist is!

it is good and bad. you guys are right that the fights are not that great, but at least it is good for the audience. in some MMA matches they spend a lot of time on their backs grappling, which is good and technical, but not much to watch. they are just giving the public what they want ACTION.

at least they are introducing more people to martial arts.

i think that it will get better with time..... the problem is that more 'fighters' need to learn things like TKD that is geared towards lots of action little practical application. if you look at TKD tournaments, they serve as a good model. there is a lot of good action, but their technique is traded for showy moves that score more points. they learn to kick for points and not damage........ i just hope that the WCL have the sense to keep their hands up!!!!! it kinda makes you wanna punch TKDist right in the face when you see them spar.

well TKD being my original style, i can say that not all TKD is like that. ur just thinking about the most common type that everyone sees, and the type that u see in the olympics. real traditional TKD has a variety of practical striking techniques as well as self defence techniques that somewhat resemble hapkido joint manipulation techniques.

yeah, but the people on WCL are all good MAist with complex styles but we only see the arm flapping portion, just like TKD tournaments.

i don't see WCL catching on anyway.... at least not to the point that MMA has.

we have to think of a new name for that type of "fighting".... it is not really MMA (which has become its own style), it is not traditional martial arts......

but they are not in a cage.....

i was thinking about it, and maybe it will evolve into something somewhat decent... have you watched early UFC?? that was really pittiful to watch. it was more brawling than MA. given time and development maybe trick martial arts will develop into a sparing form. that would be kinda cool
