Seminar Schedule

Day 1 – Friday, October 5-th. Time: 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Basics / Movement in any direction / Acrobatics / Blocks and Strikes

Day 2 – Saturday, October 6-th. Time: 12 noon – 6 p.m.
Defense against punches, grabs and chokes / Kicks / Primary targets (knock out, pressure points, nerve attacks)

Day 3 – Sunday, October 7-th. Time: 12 noon – 6 p.m.
Defense against a club, stick etc. / Defense against a knife / Defense against a gun / Use any object as a weapon.

Considering someone we don't know joined and spammed us with four different ads, I'm with disgruntled, this seems pretty fishy.
Maybe Hatori's around here somewhere. I think he said he did the Systema stuff. Maybe he could shed some light on it.

I made some calls, and as far as I have been told ... the only seminar they have scheduled right now is for August 4-7 2008.

I have never tried this style, however I have a few friends In the LA Comp circuit that say the art is legit... you just have to watch for scams...

don't get me wrong, i know that systema is a valid legit MA, but i take issue with the comment: " SPECIAL BONUS TRAINING – SECRET NO-CONTACT COMBAT!!! " no-contact combat???? that is what got to me. any form of mysticism should be questioned. but Doc, you are right, it is worth looking into before we judge them. thank you for posting the information as to how to contact them.

Huh, I hadn't even noticed the "No Contact" deal.
What had bothered me was the method of advertising.
And I don't buy "they don't do their own advertising" as an excuse. Anybody who hires advertisers should get precise info on how the advertisers operate, because this kind of thing reflects badly on the one being advertised. So, in my opinion, at best, the person who made the decision to hire the advertiser who did this is an idiot. Doesn't mean he isn't a master of Systema, just means he's not very smart.
I watched the video for the seminar, which included a section on the "No Contact Combat" which utilizes pretty standard avoidance maneuvers (side step being the most common) and the presumption that if an attacker misses, he's going to go flying head over heels, or that two attackers will run headfirst into each other. I'm sorry, but that stuff mostly just happens in comedic martial arts movies and Warner Brothers cartoons. Don't get me wrong, the maneuvers themselves are very effective. It's just that you can't send most opponents tumbling to the street by stepping out of the way.
Further, there are a few claims on the website that really bother me, like a claim that they can unleash super-human powers.

I have done a couple of one-day seminars in Systema and can confirm the style is absolutely legit. Also knowing the person kinda in charge of the UK for Systema tells me a lot more. He has been involved in MA's for many years and is an accomplished MA'ist and author on MA's (Rob Poynton).

Hatori will indeed be able to tell you more regarding Systema.

The advert leaves me a bit cold too. Dont really like people purely coming by to advertise their art, if indeed it is their art and not just some publicist!!

Dont get me wrong, if you are a regular poster on this forum, I have nothing against you telling us about a seminar you know of. Hell, if it weren't so far to travel I'd love to go to some over their!
