Default Have we lost our way.....

I work in the Night Club industry as a Cooler/Supervisor, and I was disturbed the other day to see a former student, use his ability to not only start a fight in my club, but destroy public property, as he drunkenly stumbled up the street after being tossed out.....

I guess my question is...... do we as martial artists, still follow some form of Bushido? or have we lost that sense of pride?

i think that we do.... in fact to me that is what separates a MAist from someone who practices MA.

did you say anything to your former student regarding this?

In the end, martial artists are human. There were samurai who were horrible people, just like there were shining beacons of humanity. The rigorous training may weed out the people who are looking for an easy source of physical power, but it does little to weed out those who will pay anything for such power.

I've seen fellow students act in a similar way. Mostly getting drunk and fighting with big egos. I felt sad to see them abuse their knowledge.

I'm not trying to say we need to be perfect. No one is.... However the fact remains, that we have a responsibility not only to ourselves, but the people around us... to use What we know in a positive way, and not a destructive one....

And it is because of people like yourself Doc, that predominantly that is the case. Dont berate yourself over something you really had little to no control over.

well you must all remember with great power comes great responsibility...and arrogance hahaha. it might be hard to figure out while teaching someone who is faking bushido ways and who actually follows them, but you must teach and try your best to educate your students in the good ways. just don't get to thinking that it is necessarily your fault if they go to the "dark side" if you tried your best and did your best to educate them in the ways of self DEFENSE then it's all you could do!

Im not really concerned about me, nor do I blame myself.... I guess my concern is more a general despair, and worry for future generations..... I mean don't get me wrong, Im sure the world will continue to turn, and I know you can't change everyone, however it's good to hear that people, are putting some thought into it.

I have the same issue. It's actually one of the reasons that I followed disgruntled here.
The previous site was building up a larger number of people who really were interested in the martial arts as a method of beating people up, they didn't really see the "art" in it. Whether they are right or not, I don't agree with them, and it was causing a lot of arguments.

I was just saying, in my last post, that martial artists are not immune to human weakness.
