Using a pen or keys to strike pressure points is probably one of my favorite improvised weapons also. If one is close by, a broomstick or long branch would also come in quite handy

The added weight in your fist can be devastating (with the added benefit of needing no training in any weapon. Just apply your normal martial-arts strikes), and they can be thrown in a pinch.
You do know I've Scot's blood in me don't you? No way I'm throwing money at someone; I'll wait til they get closer

Well Mr Disgruntled mostly it's a brain-storming session but there are specific techniques that are demonstrated with newspapers, tie's, sweatshirts. We encourage the students to use the item in their own individual way as this is normally how they will react rather than mimic something they have seen. It encourages spontaneous, natural, free-flowing responses

This is good, but I think there is also a place for training with objects of particular shapes.
For example, someone attempting to use a flexible weapon (especially a light one like a tie or lightweight belt) with no training will likely be worse off than if they were just using their fists. However, with training, a flexible weapon can become a very useful thing, great for binding up an arm holding a weapon.

I love the newspaper thing. I always grab a copy of City Pages (a local free newspaper) when I'm walking through the Twin Cities, and keep it rolled up in a pocket or tucked under an arm. I have enough training in short, blunt weapons that it would give me a chance against someone with a knife.

And don't worry about calling disgruntled "Mr."
I accused her of being "girly" because she posted "tee-hee" on Martial Forums.

LMAO.... i forgot about that..... but in fairness i don't think i bothered telling people i was a girl yet.... i only bothered to correct people when i became a mod. JaysonEmo kept calling me "he" and it got too confussing. LOL it blew his mind when i told him because we were fairly close.

Matayoshi kobudo teaches the use of flexible weapons, and aside from a belt, you can use a towel, a length of rope or chain, or anything else that fits the description "flexible".
Please note that flexible weapons is a catagory in the Other section, where Sensei learned it from Master Yamashita, O’Sensei Schroeder or some other bloke... not from Matayoshi Kobudo.
